1. Who can learn German / French / Japanese / Spanish language?

Anyone who has a passion for learning a foreign language can learn it as a hobby or those who want to learn it for employment/ education purpose can learn German, French, Japanese or Spanish language. There is no specific age limit for learning a foreign language. Students, professionals, housewives of any age can learn one or more of the languages mentioned above. However, it is better for children to start learning it from the age of 11 years onward.

2.What should be the minimum qualification to learn German / French / Japanese / Spanish language?

There is no minimum qualification for learning a foreign language; however a basic knowledge of English grammar will be an added advantage. At Indian Institute of Foreign Languages, our trainers give some basic trainingin English grammar as and when required during the session, no matter what foreign language you choose to learn.

3.What are the different levels in German / French / Japanese / Spanish / English language?

All the Europeanlanguages includingEnglishfollowstandards set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to gauge the language learning ability of an individual. According to CEFR standard, there are in total 6 levels of language learning: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. However, forthe Japanese language, the level of Japanese proficiency is described as N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1.

4.What kind of job will I get after learning German / French / Japanese / Spanish language?

The job market for a person with a proficiency in German, French, Japanese or Spanish is huge. Currently, there is a great demand for candidates with a proficiency level of A2 and above. Many multi-national companies like Amazon, Accenture, Thomson Reuter, Genpact, Capgemini and many more companies are recruiting candidates for the post of Linguists, Translators, Interpreters, Analysts etc.,

The basic or the entry level for German, French and Spanish areA1 level and for the Japanese language, it is N5 level.

6.Is Japanese a difficult language to learn?

Yes, it is slightly difficult to learn compared to other foreign languages, as there are 3 different scripts (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji) to learn in the Japanese language. However Japanese grammar and pronunciation is very straight forward and easy to learn.

 7.At what age can my son/daughter start learning a foreign language?

Research shows that children can start learning a foreign language when they are as small as 5-6 years, but we generallysuggest that they should be atleast 10 years or aboveto commence foreign language learning. The reason for this is that they would have just started learning 2-3 Indian language at school at that age and learning a 4th language, especially the foreign language such as German, French or Spanish could prove to be an overload for them.

8.What are the many ways to learn any language?

Language learning is different from learning maths, physics or chemistry. As in these subjects, we cannot use any formulas or shortcuts to apply while learning a language.There are 4 aspects of language learning: Speaking, listening, reading and writing. To master a language one must know all 4 aspects. At Indian Institute of Foreign Languages, we give equal importance to all the 4 parts and teach through a mixture of theory and practical based learning.

9.Will I get training for school syllabus on German / french / Spanish at Indian Institute of Foreign Language?

Yes, we do provide tuitions in German, French and Spanish language for middle and high school students of class V-X from CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE and IB board. The students can opt for 2-3 classes a week or weekend classes throughout their academic year. We can schedule classes at a timing that suits the student’s availability and also we have a flexible fee structure for school students.

10.Will I be able to converse with the native speakers after learning any of the foreign languages?

Definitely, a student after completion of A1, A2 level can converse using simple sentences and understand and reply to questions directed towards them slowly and clearly. After completion of B1 level they can understand and converse using complex sentences and give their opinion, offer suggestions, take part in day-to-day life debates etc.,

The batch size may be as big as7-8 students per class or it may be as small as 2-3 students. Yes, we also provide individual classes as per the student’s needs. 12.What is the duration of French / German / Japanese / Spanish language course?

The duration for any foreign language course depends on the level and the language being pursued by the student.For Beginner levels (A1, A2) the duration ranges from 45 – 60 hrs. For Intermediate levels (B1, B2) the duration ranges from 80 – 120 hrs and for advanced levels (C1, C2) the duration ranges from 180 – 240 hrs.

However for Japanese, the number of hours is slightly higher per level as compared to other foreign languages and it also depends on the student’s ability to master the 3 main scripts of the Japanese language.

13.What are the different types of classes offered by Indian Institute of Foreign Languages?

At Indian Institute of Foreign Languages, we offer “Weekday / Regular classes” and “Weekend / Intensive classes”. Weekday classes are conducted 5 days a week from Monday – Friday and for 1½ – 2 hrs per day. Whereas Weekend classes are on Saturday & Sunday for 3 – 4 hrs per day.

14.What is JLPT exam? Who conducts this exam?

JLPT stands for Japanese Language Proficiency Test. In Japan,this exam is conducted by the Ministry of Education via the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services while outside Japan the Japan Foundation conducts these tests in liaison with various educational institutions.

15.Where should I register for JLPT exam in India?

This test is conducted in all the major cities of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata and Bengaluru. In Bengaluru, the test is conducted by JLPT Administrative committee called the Bangalore Nihongo Kyooshi-Kai located in HSR Layout.

16.How frequent is the JLPT exam conducted?

JLPT exam is conducted twice year. In 2016, it is held on 3rd July and on 4th The registration happens between March – April for July exam and from August – September for December exam.

17.How many branches does Indian Institute of Foreign Languages have?

We have two branches in Bangalore, our first branch is located in Banashankari and the second branch is in Marathahalli.

18.What is DELF / DALF exam? Who conducts these exams?

DELF exam stands for Diplôme d’études en langue française (A1 – B2) and DALF stands for Diplôme Approfondi De Langue Française (C1 & C2). These are the two exams to test proficiency in the French language conducted by French Ministry of Education.

19.Is there any authorised exam centre in India to register for these exams?

Yes, Alliance Francaise has nearly 22 centres in India. We have a branch in Bangalore as well as in Mysore. However, Mysore centre does not conduct exams. Bangalore branch is located in Vasanthnagar.

20.How many times in a year is the DELF / DALF exam conducted?

21.What is the nearest landmark to reach Indian Institute of Foreign Languages, Marathahalli?

Our Marathahalli branch is located close to Prestige Tech Park. If you are commuting by bus please take the Marathahalli ring road from Silk Board Junction and you will have to get down at JP Morgan stop. The other landmark is New Horizon College and our institute is located on the Service Road.

23.What is Goethe-Zertifikat? Who conducts this exam?

The German language proficiency test conducted worldwide by Goethe Institute in collaboration with the Österreichisches Sprachdiplom, the Schweizer Erziehungsdirektorenkonferenz and telc GmbH.

24.How frequent is the Goethe-Zertifikat exam and what is the procedure for registering?

The exam registration for Goethe-Zertifikat has to be done through email. In the Bangalore branch of Goethe, this exam is conducted every alternate month whilein some other centres like Chennai it is conducted every month.

For every exam session, Goethe institute announces the exam registration date in advance. Once you have completed your course either your trainer or our course co-ordinator will provide you the next exam registration date and the correct procedure for registering for this exam. Please note that Goethe takes only the first few applications for each session during the registration time slot.

25.What is the validity for the DELF / DELE / Goethe-Zertifikat / JLPT exam certificates?

The validity for these exams certificates is indefinite, means it is valid for life – time and they don’t expire. However, some employers require that the certificates are not older than 2 years, in which case the candidate has to re-take the exam to obtain a fresh certificate.

26.What are the different Spanish proficiency exams that a student can take? Who conducts this exam worldwide?

For the Spanish language, there are 2-3 different proficiency tests that are conducted by various institutes either affiliated to Ministry of Educationof Spain. The three most recognized certificates are given below:

E.L.E. (Diplomas de Espanol Como Lengua Extranjera) –This exam is conducted by Instituto Cervantes

I.E. (Diploma Internacional de Espanol) – This exam isconducted by Instituto Hispania.

I.E.L.E (Servicio Internacional de Evaluacion de la Lengua Espanola) – This exam is the latest addition to the Spanish proficiency exam list since this year. This exam is also conducted by Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with University of Mexico (UNAM).

27.Which are the authorized centres for taking DELE / DIE / SIELE exams in Bangalore?

There are many authorised centres throughout India, mostly in the major cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune etc.,

In Bangalore for DELE exam is conducted by IFLAC and DIE exam is conducted at Instituto Hispania office located in Victoria Layout. However, for SIELE exams, the worldwide examination centre details are yet to be announced, as this is a very new proficiency exam.

28.What are the dates for Spanish proficiency exam in India?
